From Operator to Counsel

James Hoare founded Regulus Law PLLC to bring a different kind of legal counsel to founders and growing businesses — one informed by more than twenty years of building and implementing technology before practicing law.

Before founding the firm, James spent his career in enterprise technology, with significant experience in AI and SaaS implementation, product management, and customer-facing technical roles. He has worked with large financial institutions, government agencies, and startups across multiple stages — both as an external advisor and in-house, in legal and operational roles.

Regulus Law advises technology companies, founders, and growing businesses on privacy, AI compliance, technology contracts, and the corporate structuring work that supports them. As an Australian living in the United States since 2012, James also brings firsthand experience to advising foreign companies entering the US market, including the practical realities of structuring, regulatory navigation, and operating across jurisdictions. That background shapes the practice.

Regulus Law was built on a straightforward premise: clients deserve legal counsel that actually understands what they're building. That means counsel that prioritizes the questions that matter, explains the trade-offs plainly, and respects your judgment in weighing them.

James is admitted to practice law in New York and is based in Brooklyn. He also has a separate consulting practice over at Regulus Consulting LLC.
